MFV Mari Timo

John Pearce left the delights of skippering his Bradwell based charter angling boat Argonaunt 23 years ago and since suffered the hell of living in the tropical paradise known as Phuket, Thailand.

After working for the Chalong based Wahoo Game Fishing for many years, John's latest venture is to be running this fabulous new Maritimo 54'. The 31 tonne Maritimo is made in Australia, boasts a 17 metre beam and is powered by twin 12 Litre 715 HP Cats.

Maritimo fully understand the importance of the engine room layout on a working charter boat...just like our boat builders 'back home' (ha, bloody ha). Everything is beautifully laid out....easy to work on...

...the filters are all lined up on the bulkhead...dead easy to change. I prefer, as do many of my UK fellow skippers, to do the daily contortionist act and have to lie over my engines, enjoying the sweet sensation of burning myself whilst trying to get a grip on the filters which are embedded in the most inaccessible parts of our engines.

It seems that many boatbuilders and engine designers around the world do not possess the same sense of humour as we in the UK experience. I mean, it's just great trying to work on our engines...the chances of straining your back, cutting your hands, battering yer knuckles etc etc...wouldn't want to miss out on it.

I mean..look at it, fellow charter skippers....we could all have this level of thoughtful workmanship. The boat only costs a £1 million quid...we'd soon recover that outlay with our charter fees???? This bit of shiny stainless is the Fresh Water Maker system. Ha, give me a plastic bottle filled from Weymouth Harbourside any day!

It may be noticed that this fine craft is registered in Guernsey...as are many vessels in Phuket. Why?? Well, more of that later this week. Suffice to say, I have been invited on her inaugral fishing trip this coming week....more photo's and details will follow!!!!
